Our company is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to design and develop high-value, multi-cavity plastic injection moulds using Cimatron. The role involves creating detailed CAD models and drawings, optimizing designs through prototyping and testing, and collaborating with internal teams and customers to meet specifications and performance requirements. Responsibilities include preparing technical documentation, coordinating with suppliers, and maintaining accurate project records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design high-value, multi-cavity plastic injection moulds and associated components.
  • Develop mould design concepts through a structured process involving 3D modeling, prototyping, and testing to optimize functionality, aesthetics, and manufacturability.
  • Create and maintain accurate 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and assembly layouts using Cimatron.
  • Collaborate with in-house molding teams to ensure designs meet required tolerances, performance, and reliability standards.
  • Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure designs align with customer specifications and company standards.
  • Prepare and manage comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities and design revisions.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to source components, obtain quotations, and procure mould materials and standard parts.
  • Prepare in-house dimensional inspection reports and verify moulded part measurements.
  • Provide assistance during mould trials as needed.
  • Conduct final inspection of mould builds prior to delivery to ensure quality and compliance.

 

Qualification and Required skills

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology required; a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience in mould design within the plastic injection moulding industry.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience using Cimatron for mould design and development of mould components.
  • Strong understanding of mould design principles, manufacturing processes, and relevant industry standards.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks, manage priorities, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
